CSK vs SRH Highlights :The IPL 2025 witnessed a significant moment on April 25th as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) etched their name in the history books by securing their first-ever victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the latter’s home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This landmark win, achieved by 5 wickets while chasing a target of 155 runs, was a testament to SRH’s resilience and composure, particularly in the latter stages of the match. The encounter was a captivating affair, filled with twists and turns, showcasing individual brilliance and strategic gameplay.

The match began with Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the toss and electing to bowl first, a decision seemingly influenced by the pitch conditions and the potential for dew in the second innings. CSK’s innings got off to a shaky start, losing their opener Shaik Rasheed on the very first ball, courtesy of a sharp catch by Abhishek Sharma off the bowling of Mohammed Shami. This early setback put immediate pressure on the CSK batting lineup.

Ayush Mhatre, playing his first IPL season, showed promising signs, scoring a quickfire 30 off 19 balls, including three boundaries. However, his aggressiveintent was cut short by Pat Cummins, who induced an edge that was safely pouched by Ishan Kishan behind the stumps. Sam Curran, another key player for CSK, contributed 16 runs before falling to a short delivery from Harshal Patel, caught by Aniket Verma.

The CSK innings continued to stutter, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Ravindra Jadeja, a vital cog in their batting order, managed just 5 runs before being clean-bowled by Kamindu Mendis. Shivam Dube, known for his power-hitting, scored 11 runs before Jaydev Unadkat accounted for his wicket. The onus then fell on Dewald Brevis, making his debut for CSK, to anchor the innings. He played a spirited knock of 42 runs off 30 balls, including three towering sixes, providing much-needed impetus to the CSK total. However, his aggressiveintent was eventually curtailed by Harshal Patel, who took a stunning catch off his own bowling.

Despite Brevis’s efforts, the SRH bowlers maintained tight control, with Harshal Patel leading the charge. His four-wicket haul for just 28 runs proved to be the decisive factor in restricting CSK to a modest total of 154 runs in 19.5 overs. Pat Cummins also chipped in with two crucial wickets, while Jaydev Unadkat and Kamindu Mendis picked up one wicket each. The SRH fielding was also commendable, with Abhishek Sharma taking four catches, showcasing their alertness and agility on the field.

Chasing a target of 155 on a surface that appeared to be slightly tricky, SRH’s innings began cautiously. They suffered an early blow in the very first over when Khaleel Ahmed dismissed Abhishek Sharma for a duck. However, Travis Head, brought in as the Impact Player, showed glimpses of his destructive potential, scoring 19 runs before falling to Anshul Kamboj. Ishan Kishan then took charge, anchoring the innings with a well-compiled 44 runs off 32 balls, including a six and four boundaries. His steady presence at the crease provided stability to the SRH chase.

Just when Kishan looked set to take the game away, Noor Ahmad, the young Afghan spinner, struck a crucial blow, dismissing him caught in the deep by Sam Curran. This wicket brought Aniket Verma to the crease, who contributed a quickfire 19 runs, including two sixes, injecting momentum into the SRH innings. However, his aggressiveintent led to his downfall as he holed out off the bowling of Noor Ahmad.

With the game hanging in the balance, the onus fell on the young duo of Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy to see SRH through. They displayed remarkable composure and maturity under pressure. Mendis, batting with a calm head, remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 25 balls, while Reddy provided crucial support with 19 not out off 15 deliveries. Their unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 49 runs proved to be the match-winning stand. They rotated the strike effectively, capitalized on loose deliveries, and ensured that the required run rate never spiraled out of control.

CSK bowlers tried their best to defend the total. Khaleel Ahmed started brilliantly with an early wicket, and Noor Ahmad provided crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs. Matheesha Pathirana bowled with pace and accuracy, while Ravindra Jadeja bowled a tight spell. However, they couldn’t break the resilient partnership between Mendis and Reddy in the final overs.

The victory was particularly significant for Sunrisers Hyderabad as it marked their first win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, a venue that has traditionally been a fortress for CSK. This win not only boosted SRH’s morale but also kept their hopes alive in the fiercely competitive IPL 2025 season. For CSK, this loss at home was a setback, raising concerns about their batting consistency and their ability to defend moderate totals.

The match witnessed several key performances. Harshal Patel’s brilliant bowling spell earned him the Player of the Match award. Ishan Kishan’s steady innings provided a solid foundation for the SRH chase. However, the calm and composed batting of Kamindu Mendis and Nitish Kumar Reddy in a pressure situation ultimately sealed the victory for Sunrisers Hyderabad, scripting a memorable chapter in the history of CSK vs SRH encounters. This CSK vs SRH Highlights reel will undoubtedly be replayed for years to come, celebrating Hyderabad’s historic triumph in Chennai.
