Legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took a playful jab, or a “cheeky dig,” at Australia after their recent loss to South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. South Africa’s victory was historic, as it ended their long 27-year wait for an ICC (International Cricket Council) title. They achieved this by beating Australia by five wickets.

South Africa’s only other major ICC triumph before this came back in 1998, when they won the ICC KnockOut Trophy (which is now known as the Champions Trophy). Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Yuvraj congratulated the South Africa team. He stated that the “class of 2025” showed great “resilience and character” and rose to the challenge in an impressive way. This message included the now-famous Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig.

Yuvraj’s Congratulatory Message and Witty Remark

Yuvraj Singh’s full message on social media was a blend of genuine praise and a lighthearted poke at the losing side, led by Pat Cummins.

He wrote: “The class of 2025 ends a 27-year wait and lifts the ICC World Test Championship Trophy in style! Huge congrats to the @ProteasMenCSA on a historic win at Lord’s. I’ve always believed there’s no greater measure of resilience and character than Test cricket, and South Africa rose to the occasion! #AidenMarkram’s century was pure class. @KagisoRabada25, @marcojansen2000 and @NgidiLungi brought relentless intensity and #TembaBavuma led with calm and courage. A final worthy of the format. Tough luck #Australia! You know it’s okay to let go of one trophy #WTCFinal.”

This final line, “You know it’s okay to let go of one trophy,” is the core of the Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig. It’s a playful reminder to Australia, a team known for its incredible success and many trophy wins, that even they can afford to lose one.

South Africa’s Road to Glory

South Africa’s victory was hard-fought. After ending Day Three’s play on 213 runs for 2 wickets in their chase of 282, they were truly on the doorstep of achieving glory. Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig

Aiden Markram, who finished Day Three with 102 runs not out, went on to make a magnificent 136 runs. His century was a true display of “pure class.” The Proteas completed the chase in 83.4 overs, winning what he called the “Ultimate Test.” This also marked their eighth straight win in the “red-ball format” (Test cricket).

Markram, who surprisingly was dismissed for a “duck” (zero runs) in the first innings, also played a crucial role in a “decisive” (game-changing) 147-run partnership with captain Temba Bavuma. Bavuma contributed 66 runs, despite battling a left hamstring strain, showing great “calm and courage.”

Even though South Africa had given up a 74-run lead in the first innings, they managed to complete the chase. This was partly helped by the conditions at Lord’s becoming “batting-friendly” on Day Three, making it easier to score runs. Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig

Key Performers for South Africa

Apart from Markram and Bavuma’s batting heroics, Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was also a standout performer. He achieved superb match figures of 9 wickets for 110 runs. His consistent wicket-taking made him one of the “vital cogs” (essential parts) in the team winning the championship. Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi also contributed with “relentless intensity” in their bowling. Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig

The championship-winning players and their support staff are expected to return home to South Africa on Wednesday. They are scheduled to hold a press conference after arriving at the OR Tambo International Airport, where they will share their experiences and celebrate this historic South Africa WTC Title 2025.

The Spirit of Sporting Rivalry

Yuvraj Singh, known for his charismatic personality and strong performances for India, often engages in witty banter on social media. His Yuvraj Singh Australia Dig is not meant to be disrespectful but rather a part of the healthy sporting rivalry that exists between top cricketing nations. Australia has historically been a dominant force in world cricket, and a playful comment like this acknowledges their stature while celebrating another team’s hard-earned success. It adds flavour to the post-match discussions and is generally well-received by fans.

The WTC Final 2025 was indeed a “final worthy of the format,” showcasing the true essence of Test cricket – resilience, strategy, and individual brilliance under pressure. South Africa’s victory after a 27-year wait for an ICC trophy is a powerful narrative in itself, made even more special by the reactions from cricketing figures like Yuvraj Singh.
