Australia include Sophie Molineux in Women’s World Cup 2025 squad

Well, here’s something to get Aussie cricket fans buzzing: Sophie Molineux is back in the mix for the Women’s World Cup 2025. Yep, selectors have thrown her straight into the squad. She’s been off the scene since January thanks to that knee injury—pretty brutal timing, honestly—but apparently she’s good to go just in time for the showdown in India, which kicks off September 30. Last time she pulled on the Aussie shirt was before she went under the knife earlier this year. Will she make it for the ODI series against India right before the World Cup? Ehh, probably not. Word is she’ll sit that one out. But the folks in charge reckon she’ll be firing on all cylinders once the World Cup rolls around. Fingers crossed, yeah? Sophie Molineux

Huge lift with the injured crew back

Alright, here’s the good news for Aussie fans: Darcie Brown and Georgia Wareham are back in action. Brown’s quad drama? Sorted. Wareham’s groin? No longer a problem. Both are bowling fit again, which, honestly, is like plugging two serious power sources back into the attack. The opposition’s probably sweating a bit.

And, oh—Alyssa Healy’s back too. Remember her rollercoaster of an injury-riddled summer? She’s shaken that off pretty well, got some miles in with Australia A, and she’ll be steering the ship as captain. Tahlia McGrath’s the vice-captain, by the way. Dynamic duo vibes. Sophie Molineux

Squad rundown

Fifteen names on the squad list for the Women’s World Cup, and it’s a cool mix: seasoned pros plus some fresh faces. Phoebe Litchfield, Georgia Voll, and Kim Garth? They’re about to get their first taste of World Cup chaos—should be fun to watch. Sophie Molineux

Here’s the lineup for Australia’s 2025 World Cup squad

Alyssa Healy (c), Tahlia McGrath (vc), Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Grace Harris, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham. Sophie Molineux

Oh, and before the big dance, Charli Knott and Nicole Faltum got picked for the three ODIs against India, but yeah, they’re not in the World Cup squad. Just a little cameo for now.

Injury check-in

Team physio Kate Beerworth sounded pretty upbeat about things:

“Sophie Molineux is tracking well after her knee injury and should be good to go for the World Cup. Alyssa Healy looked sharp in the ‘A’ series—no complaints there. And Georgia Wareham’s back at full throttle in training.”

Spin city

Let’s be real—Australia’s spin options look stacked. Gardner, King, Wareham, and now Molineux back in the mix? That’s a spicy combo, especially with the World Cup happening in the subcontinent. Those pitches love a bit of turn, so, yeah, could be carnage for batters.

Batting firepower

Up the order, there’s plenty of experience—Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, that whole crew. Plus, the young guns like Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield have been tearing it up in the domestic scene. Depth for days.

How the selectors see it

Selector Shawn Flegler basically said they wanted a squad ready for anything, especially with spin being such a big deal in India and Sri Lanka. Sophie Molineux’s recovery got a big thumbs up, and they’re banking on her being fully fit when things kick off.

Chasing more trophies

Here’s the story: Australia’s the GOAT in women’s cricket. Seven World Cups already, defending champs after that 2022 win in New Zealand, and they’re gunning for number eight. First match? New Zealand, October 1, Indore. Expect fireworks. If you’re not excited, check your pulse.
