The Mumbai cricket team is set to participate in the prestigious Buchi Babu Tournament this year with 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre as their captain. The tournament, organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), will take place in Chennai from August 18 to September 9, 2025 and will see participation from 16 strong teams across India. The Buchi Babu Tournament is one of India’s most well-known domestic multi-day cricket competitions, known for giving young players a platform to showcase their skills against strong state and invitational teams. Over the years, many top Indian cricketers have made a name for themselves in this competition.

Ayush Mhatre – A Rising Star in Indian Cricket

Ayush Mhatre’s appointment as captain shows the faith the Mumbai selectors have in his leadership skills at such a young age. At just 18 years old, Mhatre has already achieved significant milestones in his cricketing journey.

Earlier this year, he made a solid impact during his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings, displaying maturity and confidence well beyond his years. Following this, he was named captain of the India Under-19 team for the England tour earlier this summer. Under his captaincy, the young Indian side performed impressively, earning him praise from both coaches and selectors. Ayush Mhatre to lead Mumbai in Buchi Babu Tournament
